Fire Hydrant Flushing

The Myrtle Creek Public Works crew will start flushing the City's fire hydrants starting April 15th.

As part of normal system maintenance, it is necessary to periodically flush a water system by flowing water at a high velocity. Corrosion and low flows in pipelines can reduce water quality in the City's system, making it necessary to periodically perform system flushing from fire hydrants and other outlets.

If you notice flushing operations in your neighborhood, water usage should be restricted as sediment from the flushing may be pulled into the home's plumbing and sprinkler systems. After flushing, it is recommended that residents run water through an outside hose bib or in a bathtub for a short time prior to consuming water or washing clothes.

If you have any questions please call City Hall at 541-863-3171.
