Community Development / Planning Purpose:

The Community Development / Planning Department has the responsibility to prepare long-range comprehensive planning. This includes ensuring compliance with the state land use planning goals and ensuring City long range plans are updated. In addition, the Community Development / Planning Department helps to develop and implement the City's land use policies, which includes maintaining and updating land development and use code.
Land use planning consists of all development applications such as site development, subdivisions, land use variances, conditional use permits, historic preservation, sign permits, etc.
The Community Development / Planning Department provides the input and coordination with the various community development functions: economic development, historic preservation, code compliance, transportation, and the community's floodplain program. We also provide staff support to the Planning Commission and City Council.
